At the top of your post, provide the full bibliographic citation in either APA or MLA format (use Zotero or ZoteroBib). Then write 3-5 paragraphs answering the following questions:

  • What is the article’s argument?
  • What evidence is the article using to support its argument?
  • In what ways do you agree with the article, and in what ways do you disagree?
    • If you disagree with claims that the article is making, why do you disagree? What evidence to the contrary would you present?
    • If you agree with claims that the article is making, how would you build on those claims? What further research needs to be done on this topic?

a* , Ashish K., et al. “The Influence of AI: The Revolutionary Effects of Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare Sector.” Journal of Engineering Research and Reports, 26 Feb. 2024, https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Stephanie-Ness-3/publication/378501244_The_Influence_of_AI_The_Revolutionary_Effects_of_Artificial_Intelligence_in_Healthcare_Sector/links/65df1ae7adf2362b635aa580/The-Influence-of-AI-The-Revolutionary-Effects-of-Artificial-Intelligence-in-Healthcare-Sector.pdf.

The article’s argument is based on how AI is going to affect our healthcare system. The article addresses the concerns that people have for AI, such as job displacement and privacy issues. But, the argument that they were making was that AI “has the potential to solve significant challenges faced by humanity, such as transforming healthcare with personalized treatment” and “in healthcare involves the utilization of machine learning (ML) and other cognitive fields to aid in medical diagnostics” (Ashish et al. 50-51). Ashish et al. talks about how AI can help doctors and medical professionals to get accurate diagnoses and treatment plans for their patients. It helps them be more accurate and get what they need quicker. It can also get things that maybe a human wouldn’t have been able to see, by “utilizing advanced data analysis techniques to generate enhanced preventive care suggestions for patients” (Ashish et al. 51). The article talks about how medical professionals can utilize AI algorithms to detect patterns in extensive data. For example, AI can help radiologists when looking at X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans. Of course this has to be looked over by the medical professional as well to make sure AI diagnosed a patient correctly, but it can greatly help get patients their diagnoses faster and takes some of the stress off of the medical professional. AI can help with preventative care, as it can look at patients health records and can see if they’re susceptible to disease, or if they will get them in the future, and can provide treatment strategies to mitigate their risks before it’s too late. Big companies are incorporating AI in to their business. Google partnered with health delivery networks to alert clinicians about high-risk illnesses, such as sepsis and heart failure. A company called Jvion provides a ‘clinical success machine’ that tells us who is at the highest risk and those who are most likely to respond positively to treatment program. Having tools like this from AI could help clinicians decide the optimal diagnosis and therapy for patients. Ashish et al. talks about an innovative study that utilizes AI to link genetic variations to autism spectrum disorder, based on the genomic information it was provided. It’s much harder for links like these to be found manually, but having the tools from AI makes it easier to diagnose patients. AI can use unprocessed data and make predictions on what patients will need based on the data it’s given. It helps identify risk factors and make predictions for the patients, which improves results. I agree with the claims the article is making, however, there is more I would need to research. Because of major, I would want to research the cybersecurity affects and risks that can come with using AI so closely to patient healthcare records. Would ethics from the medical professionals be affected because they have AI to diagnose and come up with a treatment plan for their patients? Will patients have to give consent for AI to look over their medical records? Will patients be advised that AI helped with their diagnosis or do they not have to know about it? What happens if something goes wrong?
